Privacy Policy
RaceSignal (“RaceSignal,” “we,” “us”) is an iPhone app that helps endurance athletes keep their race history and ask an AI analyst, Signal, about their own results. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, how long we keep it, and how you can delete it.
The short version
- We collect only what the app needs to work: your account, your race history, and your Signal conversations.
- We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or run analytics or advertising trackers in the app.
- Signal sends the relevant parts of your race history, and any screenshot you attach, to our AI provider, Anthropic, to write each answer.
- You can delete your account and data in the app: Settings → Delete account.
What we collect
Account and sign-in
Your email address, and how you sign in: an emailed sign-in link or password, Sign in with Apple, or Google. With Apple we receive your email address (which can be Apple’s private relay address) and a stable Apple ID for your account. We never ask Apple for your name. With Google we receive your email address and basic profile (name and picture link); our sign-in provider keeps them with your sign-in record, but RaceSignal does not display or use your Google name or photo.
Your racing name
The name you race under, used to find public results and shown on your profile. Earlier versions of the app offered an optional birth-year field during setup. If you entered one, it is stored with your profile and not used for anything else.
Race data
The races you add or import: event name, date, location, sport, distance, finish time, splits, rankings and notes, plus your race-prep checklist for upcoming races. Imported results come from publicly available results pages on third-party race-timing and results providers; you confirm which results belong to you.
Signal conversations
When you ask Signal a question, we store your questions and Signal’s answers so you can return to them.
Screenshots you attach to Signal
If you attach a screenshot (for example from Garmin, Strava or TrainingPeaks), it is sent once, for that one message, to Anthropic. We do not save the image. Signal’s written reply, which may describe what it read in the image, is saved with your conversation. The photo-library permission is used only to let you pick that screenshot.
Subscription information
Purchases are handled by Apple, and we never see your payment details. Our subscription provider, RevenueCat, receives your account ID, your purchase and subscription status, and basic device and app information so it can tell us whether Premium is active. Before you sign in, the app may create a random installation identifier with RevenueCat, with the same basic device and app information and no name, email or account ID; when you sign in it is linked to your account. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy.
Usage and technical data
- How many Signal questions your account has used, so we can apply the free and Premium limits. For each Signal request we also record counts only (the size of the request and reply, whether an image was attached, and whether you were Premium), never the content.
- Operational logs that are written to find and fix problems. We avoid putting your questions, race data or images in them.
- As with any internet service, your IP address reaches our hosting providers. We also keep daily counters of race-lookup requests by IP address to limit abuse. These counters are not linked to your account.
What stays on your phone
Race-prep and between-race reminders are scheduled on your iPhone and your reminder preferences are stored there. We do not send push notifications and we do not collect a push token. RaceSignal contains no analytics, advertising or tracking software.
How we use it
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To show, organize and analyze your race history, including answering your questions in Signal.
- To apply Signal limits and manage subscriptions.
- To prevent abuse, fix problems and answer your support requests.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not sell or rent your data, and we do not use it for advertising or marketing. The only email we send is your sign-in link.
Who processes your data
| Provider | What it does for us | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosts our database, sign-in and server functions (United States, East region) | Your account, sign-in record, race data, conversations and usage records |
| Anthropic | Powers Signal | Your question, the race data relevant to it, and a screenshot if you attach one (that message only) |
| RevenueCat | Manages subscriptions | Your account ID, purchase and subscription status, basic device and app information |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases | Per Apple’s own privacy policy |
| Sign in with Google; delivery of sign-in emails | Your basic profile at sign-in; your email address for sign-in emails | |
| Race-results providers | Public results lookup | The racing name you search for, sent from our servers (not your account details) |
These providers act on our behalf and handle data under their own terms and privacy policies. They may process data in the United States and other countries.
Signal and Anthropic
To write an answer, we send Anthropic the race data relevant to your question and, if you attached one, that message’s screenshot. Anthropic states that it automatically deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days, with longer retention in limited cases such as enforcing its usage policy or complying with law, and that it does not use inputs or outputs from its commercial products to train its models by default. We cannot change Anthropic’s retention, which also applies to anything you send in a Signal message. See Anthropic’s privacy center and privacy policy.
Google user data
If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and basic profile only to sign you in and identify your account. We do not use Google user data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we share it only with the service providers above as needed to run RaceSignal. It is deleted with your account. RaceSignal’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
How long we keep data, and deleting it
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, your profile, your race history, your Signal conversations and your usage records. It cannot be undone.
- Sign in with Apple. When you delete your account we ask Apple to revoke RaceSignal’s access. If that cannot be confirmed, the app tells you how to remove RaceSignal in your Apple ID settings.
- Subscription record. After your account is deleted, we ask RevenueCat to delete the customer record linked to your account ID, including its purchase history and the installation identifier that was linked to it when you signed in. RevenueCat carries this out on its side, so it is not instant. An automatic check runs every 30 minutes: it confirms the record is gone and repeats the request if it is not (up to 10 attempts in all), and for 7 days after confirmation it checks again in case the record is recreated. While this is in progress we keep a minimal record of the request: your old account ID and its status, nothing else. We delete that record 30 days after RevenueCat’s record is confirmed gone. If a record still cannot be confirmed gone after the 10 attempts, automatic retries stop, we keep the minimal record, and we resolve it by hand; it stays until then. You do not need to contact us. A record RevenueCat created for an installation that never signed in is not linked to any account. Apple keeps its own purchase records, and deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription: cancel it in your device’s Apple ID subscription settings, or it will keep renewing.
- Data held by others. Anthropic’s retention described above, and anything Apple or Google hold under their own policies, are outside our control.
- Backups. Copies of deleted data may remain in routine infrastructure backups for a limited time before they are overwritten.
If the in-app option does not work for you, or you would like help, write to racesignal@gmail.com.
Your choices and rights
- Turn reminders off in Settings → Notifications or in iOS Settings.
- Withdraw your consent to share data with Anthropic in Settings → Signal privacy & consent; Signal asks again before your next question.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, UK or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, or to object to some uses. Email us and we will respond within a reasonable time. We may need to confirm it is you.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections, and each account can reach only its own data. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
RaceSignal is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country).
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.
